How will my order be packed?

NZ Fine Prints Ltd guarantee that your fine art prints and posters will reach you in perfect condition. All fine art prints and posters are loosely rolled (so there are no creases) and wrapped in acid free tissue paper (protects the prints and makes it much easier for you to slide them out). We use large diameter super sturdy mailing tubes (3mm thick walls that don't dent) made from recycled cardboard. Framed prints have cushioning foam board slotted into the frame in front of the image, then wrapped in bubble wrap, then twin cushion cardboard, then another layer of bubble wrap. All orders are sent through New Zealand Post's CourierPost or Parcel Post networks, by Aramex [previously Fastway] or by Air Mail.

Do you do picture framing? Yes!

Unless stated otherwise all prices are for the unframed (loose) print. We now offer simple and elegant framing for all prints in our range, not just the trial selection shown in framed prints. Framing is completed within 3-7 business days and your framed prints are then shipped in extremely sturdy packaging anywhere in New Zealand for just $20 shipping per order (for any number of framed items) and to selected overseas destinations. Please call us on 0800 800 278 and we will tell you more about your framing options and give you a quote if the print you like does not yet have framing options listed.

What size are the prints and what exactly do the dimensions refer to?

Print size and lots of other information on any particular print is viewed by clicking on the thumbnail image or the art print title. All dimensions are the approximate image size (the coloured surface of the paper excluding white border) rounded to the nearest five millimetres unless otherwise stated. Because dimensions can occasionally vary between printings - or our supplier may change for certain titles over time - please wait until the prints are delivered to have frames made so you can measure the image in real life.

Stretched/Unstretched - what does this mean?

Our art prints on canvas are in stock ready to be delivered to you carefully rolled in a large mailing tube. The option to have them delivered mounted (stretched around a wooden frame ready to hang) is called "stretching". This takes a few extra days before dispatch and the canvas prints are then ready to hang out of the box. Like a framed print a stretched canvas print is delivered for just $NZ20 NZ wide. We strongly recommend shipping canvas prints rolled in our sturdy mailing tubes to destinations outside of NZ and Australia as the cost of delivery of a stretched canvas can be higher than the cost of stretching once it arrives, this is a simple process that can be done at any picture framer for reasonable cost anywhere in the world.

What is a Boxframe?

This is your chosen prints framed in a contemporary glass-free frame using a box edged framing system: the image sits flush in a sturdy wooden frame and the print surface is protected by durable low sheen laminate. Hanger attached. Available in black or white. Framing your print takes a few extra days before dispatch. Framed prints are delivered for just $NZ20 NZ wide and to selected destinations worldwide for $NZ50.

What is a giclee print?

Giclee prints are created using the Giclee printing process which uses a very sophisticated digital printer to deliver a fine stream of ink onto archival paper. The resulting print has extremely fine colour fidelity and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum and gallery display. The giclee printing process is also used to print onto canvas.

What are hand-signed prints?

Handsigned prints have been signed by the artist.

What quality are the prints/posters?

All prints/posters have passed our rigorous selection process. We assess all new work to make sure meets our high standard of image, paper, and print quality. Your rights are further protected by our money back guarantee and New Zealand's world leading consumer protection legislation, the Consumer Guarantees Act.

What is an Open or Limited Edition?

An open edition print can be reprinted once the edition has sold out. A limited edition print is produced in a set number and once sold out will not be available again. We no longer refer to non limited edition prints as being open edition as lots of customers have told us this is confusing. We are gradually removing this term from our catalogue as records are updated.

How does your gift service work?

Art Prints are the perfect gift for any occasion. We include a personal message if you wish and will giftwrap at no extra cost. Add the print or prints you want to send as a gift to your shopping cart and you let us know the recipient's details at checkout time. You can also send your friends a New Zealand Art Gift Voucher by post or email , which is a great idea if you are not sure of exactly what they might like.

How do I unpack and store my fine art prints?

Fine art prints and posters should be stored flat if possible. The prints will have been very loosely rolled and should spring open to nearly flat. If necessary they can be "de-curled" completely by being placed on a clean and flat surface and held down by weights (eg some books) for 24 hours. For long term storage and display best practice read our article how to care for art prints.

Where do the prints/posters come from?

As well as producing our own prints New Zealand Fine Prints Ltd source prints and posters directly from artists and publishers throughout New Zealand and the world. If you are a New Zealand artist who is planning to publish prints we would love to hear from you.

What is the difference between a print and a poster?

In practice the terms are used interchangeably. We differentiate only between Poster Format (lighter paper with no framing margin) and Fine Art Print (heavier paper and usually framing margin/white border). Poster Format work is only found in our $20 poster gallery

How is a print/poster produced?

Most fine art prints and posters are now produced by photo-lithography or offset printing. The artist is often involved in proofing (checking) the print to make sure that it is a good reproduction of their original work. This doesn't apply to screenprints, handmade lithographs etc of course.

Are the colours of the prints/posters exactly the same as I can see on-screen?

Not exactly the same - all monitors are different. But the prints will look better than they do on screen as screen images are of a very low resolution.
