Hiwihiwi are a small marine fish with spiny fins found in New Zealand’s shallow coastal waters. In this artwork Shane captures the movement of two fish beneath the water, a dance that he describes in his poem that he wrote about this artwork.

Oh little fish, I see you dance
You speckled little beauty
Me oh my, you wear it well
Pink, green, purple, brown

With your partner, I see you dance
Your hypnotic belly dance
Drawn to the rhythm, the rhythm of your dance
I take a breath and watch you dance

Lost in space, I see you dance
In orbit, with braided weed you dance
Admission free, to watch you dance
Pink, green, purple, brown
