Henry Gasser was born in Newark, NJ in 1909 and not only studied at its School of Fine and Industrial Art, but later became the School's director. Gasser exhibited widely throughout the United States, winning many medals and awards and being admitted as a member of the National Academy of Design and of the Royal Society of Arts (1957). In 1954 Gasser resigned from his directorship to become a career lecturer and demonstrator of art techniques at painting groups, and to devote time to writing several books on the topic. His works, in both watercolours and oils, are realistic views, usually of coastal life on the American seaboard. The Gasser collection at NZ Fine Prints are imported directly from a US publisher.
