Wellington contemporary folk artist Ellen Giggenbach creates artwork by hand cutting and assembling painted papers. Giggenbach has a strong professional background in design but also credits growing up in a "crafty family" as an ongoing inspiration for her artistic career. Giggenbach is passionate about mid twentieth century design and European folk art.She says about the creation process that "I have always been drawn to cut paper because I like the flexibility of changing the composition and colours and this process allows it. I also love the fluidity of cut lines. They look clean and crisp without looking too perfect. It is important to me that each piece I cut (I use a scalpel) is a beautiful shape on its own." NZ Prints are delighted to have in stock Ellen's inagural range of six folk art style prints of New Zealand native birds.
