Albin Martin (1813-1888) was an experienced painter long before he migrated with his family to New Zealand in 1852. Martin lived in Auckland, and his landscapes, in watercolours and oils, were exhibited both in New Zealand and in Australia. A contemporary of Kinder and Hoyte, his work is represented in many Australasian galleries. His typical NZ landscape of the colonial era was reproduced as a print by the Capper Press, in their “traditionals” series.
