Paratene Matchitt (1933 - ) is a significant Maori artist. Trained as a teacher Matchitt worked as an arts and crafts advisor alongside Ralph Hotere until he left the education sector to work as an artist fulltime. Described by Te Papa as "a pivotal figure" in the "Maori Modernists" Matchitt's prints use the materials and techniques of modern art to re-work traditonal Maori artforms. New Zealand Fine Prints' opinion is that prints by Para Matchitt currently present an excellent investment opportunity for astute collectors. Highly recommended. Update: Both limited edition prints by this artist have now sold out.
