Milan Mrkusich (1935 - 2018). Pioneering NZ abstract painter, born in Dargaville, Northland in 1935. A self-taught artist Mrkusich held his first exhibition in Auckland in 1949, and was always interested in architectural forms: the basis of many works is the square, circle and triangle. A Mrkusich print was in the Barry Lett Multiples, and an offset lithograhic print of a painting in the Hocken Library was published by Christchurch’s Capper Press. We have a just very few of these prints of Mrkusich's abstract painting "Four Elements" left in our stockroom that have been stored in pristine condition since publication.
