Sydney Parkinson (1745-1771) was the draughtsman employed by Sir Joseph Banks during Captain James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific. His Journal of a voyage in the Endeavour was published after his death by his brother, and includes many of the earliest depictions of New Zealand's plants and animals. Parkinson was the first European artist to visit Aotearoa. New Zealand Fine Prints currently stock prints of two famous New Zealand pictures based on artworks by Sydney Parkinson.
