Katsukawa Shunso (1726-1792) lived in Tokyo, where he was recognised as a master of the Ukiyo-e group, and noted not only as a printmaker but also as a painter whose subjects in the theatre and actors were widely copied by his pupils, among whom at one time was Hokusai. We have always liked Japanese art and the print of Woman & Maid is a lovely example of Shunsho’s work.
