NZ painter Alan Taylor (1933 - 2016) was born in England but emigrated to New Zealand at the age of 20. From his earliest days in NZ he was fascinated by Maori culture and his artwork is heavily influenced by this appreciation. Taylor, who also worked as a journalist, published two important books on Maori culture, “The Maori Builds” and “Maori Folk Art”. Taylor’s paintings contain many references to the NZ landscape and the issues arising at the intersection of Maori and Pakeha culture. Taylor produced two superb prints of his work with printmaker Don Tee, these are limited edition handprinted screenprints. Unfortunately both these prints are now sold out (September 2021).
