Sydney Thompson Prints

Because "Lyttelton from Bridle Path" published by the Christchurch Art Gallery is no longer in print there are currently no prints available of paintings by Christchurch painter Sydney Lough Thompson (1877-1973). Thompson studied with van der Velden at the Canterbury School of Art before further training in England and Europe. Returning to Christchurch, he was Life Master at his old School, specialising at that time in portraiture. After 1910 he divided his time between New Zealand and Europe, especially France, living in Brittany for thirty years before his final return to New Zealand in 1968. His services to art were recognised by the award of an OBE, and he is widely represented in major New Zealand galleries.
