Dunedin born artist Simon Williams began painting while living in Sydney during the late 1980s. On his return to New Zealand Williams based himself in Auckland often choosing to paint plein air throughout New Zealand. His large oil on canvas works allow Williams to produce scenes on a panoramic scale. The city's volcanic cones are frequent vantage points for these works. Other favourite subjects are the Northland and Coromandel coastline and the South Island high country. Simon Williams has had 12 solo exhibitions. His works have been added to the collection of the former U.S. President, Bill Clinton, after a visit to Auckland's International Art Centre in May 2002. Simon has just released a series of canvas prints of his favourite paintings.
