Pacific Island art is having a significant impact on the development of art in Aotearoa/New Zealand and it is a well-worn cliche that Auckland is now the capital of Polynesia. Pasifika themes and motifs now occur frequently in the work of artists working here and painters of Pacific Island origin are (finally!) starting to produce some wonderful prints of their work. We are also delighted to stock prints by artists working in the Pacific Islands, for example the highly decorative contemporary views of Samoa by Valerie Beale. For our first three decades the only prints of the Pacific Islands we stocked were by Paul Gauguin and artists from Cook's voyages like Hodges and Cleveley but as you can see from the fast growing range of prints in our Pasifika Gallery we are now delighted to offer many more Pacific prints for you to choose from.
