This print is of one of the new series of “Islands” paintings from NZ artist Barry Ross Smith. The title references Buller (of Buller’s Birds of NZ) and fellow kiwi artist Bill Hammond who has also responded to this 19th century bird collector and author in his paintings. In Ross Smith’s painting the island is home to a collection of native NZ birds, including the extinct Huia alongside the more familiar Tui, Kiwi, Weka and Kea etc.
