Perry’s Occidental Hotel by Terry Moyle & Rosie Louise

This late 2019 architectural study from Rosie Louise & Terry Moyle gave us a surprise. The Occidental Hotel was a Christchurch institution, located facing Latimer Square on Hereford Street. New Zealand Fine Prints’ stockroom and gallery was located two doors down the road from the 1970s - 2011 so we knew this hotel well! The classic colonial era facade with its double verandas was rumoured to have been salvaged after the quakes but has not yet re-surfaced. A local Indian restaurant chain did however re-build a close replica of Perry’s Occidental’s facade a few streets further south in the mid 2010s.
