Smither says “The way the eye is drawn into the sweet spot of the composition – the emergence of the stream from the land - [it’s] one of my best compositions.” This is a characteristic Smither Taranaki image – the light reflecting on the black sands, intensely green hills, coloured cliffs, the Kaitaki mountains and Herekawe stream emerging, the birds upon the updraft of the cliffs.
