The seawall at Kawaroa Park, New Plymouth, where Smither has for decades done his studies of rocks and fish. Michael has included a tribute to fellow artist Don Binney, he says “in this work I sited the Kingfisher in memory of Don Binney”. The detailed attention to the rocky beach in a larger scaled work is emblematic of Smither’s finest prints and paintings.
