In this dramatic work,  Michael pays ‘homage’ to Charles Heaphy (1820 - 1881) an early New Zealand artist and surveyor for the New Zealand Company.


In 1840 Heaphy joined an exploring party following the west coast of the North Island as far as Ngamotu in Taranaki.  His most famous view of Mt Taranki (Egmont) was painted at this time.
