Cowdie Forest on the Wairoa River, Kaipara, 1839 by Charles Heaphy

Six men in a rowboat on the Wairoa River, with dense kauri forest on the opposite bank. Dated December 1839.

The men include the artist, Colonel William Wakefield, and Drs John Dorset and George Robinson.  Heaphy shows himself as one of the longboat crew.  He is pulling his oar fourth from the bow.
