The Kiwiana icons chosen by artist Alison Gilmour to represent what she sees as the essence of kiwiana are pohutukawa blossom, a fern unfurling in the classic koru shape and a paua shell resting on a flax kete. This prints' amazingly lifelike icons of kiwiana are from an original painting called "Kiwiana Icons" - they are photorealistic rather than photographs.
