The 1935 pictorials were a landmark NZ stamp issue. Only the second pictorial series in NZ history. the designs were selected from a stamp design competition that received over 1500 entries with a prize of 25 pounds for each design that was accepted. The designer of the 3 pence stamp depicting a young Maori girl was an artist known today for his NZ Tourism Department posters, LC Mitchell. Striking image that has been turned into a highly decorative black and white historical New Zealand print.
