Alec starts by searching for those evocative scenes, waiting for the right light and mood and then capturing it. Alec is a digital artist – instead of a blank canvas and paintbox, he starts with a blank screen and uses a pen tablet that allows him to paint on-screen. Alec starts by searching for an evocative scene such as this view of picturesque boats sheds near Akaroa then he waits for the right light and mood to capture it in eye-popping detail that is possible using digital printmaking tools. To ensure colour fidelity and accuracy Tayler prints each individual print directly using his own 12-colour HP wide-format digital printer. The paper he has chosen is Hahnemuhle 308 cotton rag. This is a “benchmark” paper that is a favourite with fine art photographers and artists the world over. It is a smooth, offwhite, heavy-weight (almost like card), acid-free art paper that guarantees archival standards while faithfully rendering all the colour and detail.
