Motumahanga “quartet” and “sextet” are a rearrangement of panels from from the Motumahanga Tryptch. They are like musical variations, the theme being the various views of the island of Motumahanga off the Taranaki coast. Since 1986 the area around these islands (also known as Sugar Loaf Islands) has been protected as a marine reserve.
