Motumahanga Square Quartet is a larger and enhanced edition of a smaller early 1980s work. Smither describes the print’s colour choices, “I have always liked the shocking pink in it, a difficult but fashionable colour of the 70's and 80's. The composition has the energy of a swastika without the political overtones.” Also known as the “Sugar Loaf Islands” these rocky outcrops are just off the coast near Port Taranaki.
