Designed by NZ born illustrator Harry Rountree. Issued by the New Zealand Government Publicity Office in the 1920s this authentic vintage design featuring a swordfish (Marlin?) was also used in a series of 1930s postage stamps. Fishing posters like this were used to lure (!) overseas anglers to NZ’s off shore fishing hotspots such as the Bay of Islands. NZ’s reputation as the “Angler’s El Darado” after the visit of American writer Zane Grey was at it’s height during this period. Re-printed from an original vintage poster using lightfast ink on good quality paper.
