The fifth memorial drawing in the Rita Angus memorial drawings series by NZ painter and printmaker Michael Smither. Although dated 2014 this black and white print has a genesis dating back to 1970 when during Smither’s tenure as the Frances Hodgkins fellow at Otago University Rita Angus died. Smither decided to take the central Otago landscape they both enjoyed and introduce it into the cruciform shape as a memorial to her. He recently became reaquainted with the original drawings and decided to make a small edition of prints similar to the “stations of the cross” based on his earlier sketches.
