Rita Angus shows herself at the heart of her Wellington environment in this print of a watercolour painting. Her house and magnolia tree appear at the top right, and a painting of the city sits on an easel below. Angus is framed by flowers and plants, and her pale features make her look like a marble statue. “Self-portrait with fruit” has a connection with the earlier goddess paintings like Rutu and Goddess of Mercy. Like these paintings this self-portrait celebrates a mystical female world of creativity, spirituality, and peace. One print left before this one has sold out. Now out of print :(
