Sunset over the Pacific Ocean, painted by NZ artist Maryanne Thomsen. Siapo is the Samoan word for a fine cloth made from the bark of the Paper Mulberry tree. In Fiji, this linen-like barkcloth is called Masi, in Tonga it's Ngatu. Wherever it's made in the Pacific, siapo is regarded as one of the region's finest and most distinctive art form and Thomsen references this unique Pasifika style in the distinctive siapo style motif and colours of her painting.
